Mapstr is a hybrid between a map app and a note-taking app that helps users keep track of favorite places and discover new ones. The app lets users add unlimited tags to bookmarks, check opening hours, and store phone numbers for saved places. Mapstr released version 1.0 last month and has attracted 50,000 users who have saved over 400,000 places. The company added profiles and map-syncing so users can share public maps with friends and discover places via others' maps. Upcoming product plans include proximity notifications for saved places, the ability to attach photos to place entries, curated "official maps" (for example, magazine maps), and expansion to Android and Apple Watch. Founder Sébastien Caron says the initial funding will let the team experiment with these new features and platforms.
