Overview
MarkaVIP operates a private‑sales e-commerce platform focused on apparel and accessories across the MENA region. Founded in Jordan in November 2010, it launched in Jordan and Saudi Arabia and has since expanded through the GCC and into Lebanon. The company reports 1.5 million registered users and is adding roughly 5,000 new members per day. MarkaVIP raised a $10 million Series B to fund growth. Management says the proceeds will be used to expand operations and marketing and to decrease product delivery lead times and improve quality. The company is targeting a largely offline US$15 billion MENA apparel and accessories market as internet penetration and social‑media usage in the region rise. MarkaVIP operates a private-sales, flash-sales ecommerce club serving the Middle East. It adapted the flash-sales model popularized by Vente Privée and Gilt to run timed private sales for users. The company was founded in Jordan in November 2010 by CEO Ahmed Alkhatib and CTO Amer Abulaila and has attracted 700,000 registered users, with up to 5,000 joining per day. MarkaVIP is available in the GCC, Jordan and Lebanon and employs 120 people across six offices in Beirut, Dubai, Amman, Istanbul, Antwerp and San Francisco. Early backers include former Yahoo VP Usama Fayyad, former US ambassador Karim Kawar, Hummingbird Ventures and Çağlar Erol. The new capital will be used to boost sales and marketing and to support regional expansion throughout the Gulf Cooperation Council.
