Overview
MarketFinance is a UK fintech credit and payments company that offers B2B Pay Later embedded finance solutions for SMEs, integrating payment, authentication, and credit options at checkout. Its product is available in sterling, US dollars, and euros, enabling online businesses to offer flexible payment terms of up to 90 days to buyers across multiple geographies. Under the new agreement the firm can provide credit worth up to £240m per year on rolling 45–90 day terms to UK-based businesses. To date MarketFinance has made over £45m available to more than 2,000 buyers via embedded finance. The company says the ability to lend in local currencies helps UK suppliers serve buyers in Europe and North America and supports international growth. Viola has previously invested a total of £75m with MarketFinance to support the company’s entry into the business loans segment. MarketFinance operates a credit platform and payments service that uses smart technology to deliver faster, more affordable payments and finance with one-to-one personal support. The company focuses on serving UK SMEs and aims to make finance frictionless by solving payments and cash-flow issues. MarketFinance topped up its funding with a £100 million debt facility from Deutsche Bank to offer new lending for investment and working capital. It will provide loans between £10,000 and £500,000, accessible within 24 hours of applying. The firm targets 3.2 million under-served sole traders and partnerships and is embracing embedded finance by making products available via key platforms. MarketFinance is backed by Northzone, Barclays Bank UK and Mouro Capital and emphasizes its lending track record, technology and people. MarketFinance operates an online platform that gives UK businesses access to a range of flexible finance solutions, including a new Flex Loans product. Flex Loans is an unsecured, flexible facility with pre-agreed limits up to £100,000 and flexible withdrawals and repayments spread over 3–12 months. The company aims to help nearly one million UK SMEs solve short-term funding gaps and intends to quickly lend £250m to businesses around the UK. MarketFinance has been accredited by the British Business Bank as a lender under the Recovery Loan Scheme (RLS) and can offer RLS loans between £50k and £250k repayable over 4–6 years with interest-only repayments for the first six months. Management says adapting to increased online demand drove the company’s profitability this year, which continued into H2 2021. The firm plans to use newly raised funds to support a variety of working-capital needs, including inventory, supplier payments, and growth investments. MarketInvoice is an online invoice finance platform that provides invoice funding and business loans to SMEs. Its core product enables companies to access invoice funding and a business loans solution. The company has funded more than £2 billion of invoices and business loans to UK companies and positions itself as Europe’s largest online invoice finance platform. MarketInvoice plans to use new funding to deepen its UK market presence and to launch cross-border fintech-bank partnerships to expand into new markets. Strategic partnerships with banks and the use of new sources of data are central to its growth strategy, according to CEO Anil Stocker. The company has worked closely with partners such as Barclays, which has rolled out MarketInvoice’s service to its SME client base. MarketInvoice operates a peer-to-peer invoice finance platform that lets businesses raise cash by selling outstanding invoices to buyers such as hedge funds, asset managers, family offices and high-net-worth individuals. Invoice buyers bid in real-time auctions to determine how much of an invoice they will fund, and MarketInvoice takes a small cut of transactions. The platform is providing financing at a rate of around £30m per month and is close to £500m in total facilitated finance. The company plans to roll out new products that let businesses access funds against licences, contracts and subscriptions, and to offer supplier finance for large projects. It also aims to benefit from the U.K. government's upcoming Innovative Finance ISA by enabling retail investors to access the platform. The business is positioned to address SME lending gaps following the U.K. banking crisis and ongoing reluctance of banks to lend to small and medium enterprises.
