Overview
Maroo is a New York–based startup offering buy now, pay later payment plans tailored to the wedding industry. It lets couples split wedding-related invoices with 0% APR payment plans for up to 24 months. Maroo targets both soon-to-be-married couples and wedding vendors — bridal salons, photographers, makeup artists, florists — allowing businesses to generate invoices that feature Maroo’s flexible payment option. When a contract is signed the business receives the full contracted amount less a 10% fee charged by Maroo. Every Maroo transaction includes wedding cancellation insurance via eWed, which is underwritten by Houston Casualty Company, a member of Tokio Marine HCC. Financially, Maroo has raised a total of $3.8 million from investors including Y Combinator, I2BF Global Ventures, Pioneer Fund, Acrobator Ventures and others. The company is pursuing market share in a large wedding spending market, though the firm notes some expenses for certain age groups are often covered by parents.
