Materialize

436 Lafayette Street, Floor 6, New York, NY, 10003, United States

Overview

Materialize provides a standard SQL interface for streaming data, enabling engineers to build complex queries and multiway joins without specialized skills or microservices. Its engine computes and incrementally maintains data as it is generated so query results are available immediately. Materialize Cloud is available in open beta. The company plans to use the new funding to expand its engineering team across the U.S. and internationally and to accelerate development and adoption of its data streaming technology. Founded in 2019 and led by co-founder and CEO Arjun Narayan, Materialize has grown its developer community to over 980 people in the past six months. It has attracted customers including Density and Kepler Cheuvreux. The Series C takes the company's total funding to over $100 million. Materialize builds a streaming database that exposes standard SQL over real-time data, leveraging the open-source Timely Dataflow project created by its chief scientist Frank McSherry. The company’s product is designed to let businesses query and build intelligent applications on streaming data without learning a new query language. Materialize currently offers a paid service with support and an SLA while it continues to develop the commercial side of the business. The startup is working on a hosted SaaS version of the product, which it expects to release sometime next year. Financially, Materialize has raised $40 million in total funding to date. The company has about 20 employees and plans to double headcount by the end of next year.
