Overview
McCarthyFinch spun out of New Zealand law firm MinterEllisonRuddWatts as an independent startup in 2017 with the goal of streamlining legal workflows through artificial intelligence. Its cloud-based platform offers 18 discrete services that tackle repetitive legal processes such as document review, discovery, and tagging. Using proprietary natural language processing, the system can grasp the context of a case from as few as two or three documents and achieve roughly 90 % accuracy, dramatically reducing review times from weeks to minutes. Rather than selling directly to law firms, the company follows a 'Powered-By' model, exposing its capabilities through RESTful APIs to legal-focused software vendors and large systems integrators. It currently has 10 trials under way with organizations that include the largest law firm in Europe, a major global legal information provider, and the fastest-growing SaaS company in history. McCarthyFinch is also negotiating reseller agreements with Deloitte and Accenture. While engineering remains in New Zealand, the firm plans to open a U.S. office in Los Angeles to support international growth and prepare for its next funding round.
