MCE-5 Development

4 Rue Fulgencio Gimenez, Vaulx-en-Velin, Rhône, 69120, France

Overview

MCE-5 DEVELOPMENT is developing the MCE-5 VCRi, a variable compression ratio gasoline engine that the company says can reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 45%. The firm is executing a ten-year R&D program to materialize that technology and move it toward mass production. The first prototype vehicle was presented in mid-September 2010. A consortium of 12 European companies, primarily Tier-1 OEMs, is backing the project and the company's short-term focus is commercializing the technology to carmakers to begin mass production by 2016–2017. The company employs nearly 40 people, including thirty engineers, and currently has roughly 350 shareholders. MCE-5 has been backed by French innovation-focused institutions as well as private and industrial investors.
