MDC is building a surgical robot that can operate inside an MRI to enable real-time guidance for minimally invasive procedures. The system relies on high-stiffness, low-friction hydraulic transmissions and actuators powered by water and tethered outside the scanner to avoid materials that interfere with MRI imaging. That design is intended to give physicians highly dexterous, direct control of needle positioning, advancement and actuation. MDC is initially targeting biopsies and ablations and plans to add digitization, power assist, AI guidance and enhanced data capture to extend capabilities beyond current practice. The company’s work is built on research by founder and CEO Sam Frishman at John Hopkins and Stanford, and MDC is based in the Bay Area. MDC graduated from SOSV's HAX accelerator and has raised $1.2 million in pre-seed funding.
