Overview
MDsave’s core product is a patented bundling and collection workflow that makes medical procedures transparent, shoppable, and instantly transactable, allowing patients to pay one upfront price. Its collection software distributes payments to bundle participants within seven days. The workflow has been implemented in hundreds of hospitals nationwide and the company reports saving consumers more than 40% of out-of-pocket costs while significantly increasing net collections for providers. Change Healthcare made a strategic minority investment and entered a broader collaboration to combine MDsave’s platform with its payment capabilities, bundled-payment expertise, data, and connectivity. Together they plan to increase price transparency, reduce inefficiency, lower costs, and expand MDsave solutions into physician groups, radiology, anesthesiology, and dental providers via Change Healthcare’s customer base. Harpeth Capital served as financial advisor to MDsave in the transaction. MDsave operates an online healthcare marketplace that brings patients seeking affordable, reliable care together with providers offering negotiated, bundled, up-front priced services. The platform uses patented technology to simplify billing and payments, reduce waste, increase patient access, and improve providers' payment rates and ratios. MDsave also helps employers and payers offer more value to employees and policyholders with out-of-pocket deductible credits and provides consumer information on common illnesses and procedures. The company launched in June 2012 and is co-located in Brentwood, Tennessee and San Francisco, California. MDsave announced a strategic investment from Cambia Health Solutions to develop partnerships that integrate MDsave's marketplace with Cambia's transparency solutions and portfolio companies. Through that partnership MDsave aims to accelerate nationwide delivery of a seamless healthcare shopping and payment experience, including joint efforts with HealthSparq, which serves 70 health plans and 74 million consumers. MDsave operates an online marketplace giving cash-paying consumers discounted access to healthcare providers for surgeries, imaging, office visits and other services. The company is led by CEO and co-founder Paul Ketchel and is based in Brentwood, Tennessee, with offices in Nashville and San Francisco. As of the article, MDsave serves over 50 U.S. markets and plans to make the marketplace available to all U.S. consumers in the coming months. MDsave raised $12M in its first funding round from MTS Health Investors. The company intends to use the proceeds to bolster and expand its platform nationally and internationally. As part of the investment, MTS partner Oliver Moses joined MDsave's board.
