Overview
Meatable develops cultivated pork and beef using pluripotent stem cells and its patented opti-ox™ technology to generate mature muscle and fat cells in days. The company positions its product as real meat with taste, texture, and nutritional profiles comparable to conventional meat. Meatable aims to scale production to meet rising global demand while reducing environmental impact and eliminating the need to harvest animals. Its opti-ox™ approach was recognized by TIME as one of the best inventions of 2024. The company is headquartered in the Netherlands and is pursuing market entry and strategic partnerships in Asia. Meatable has announced collaborations and potential co-development projects to accelerate commercialization in the region. Meatable is a Dutch cultivated meat company developing cultivated pork products and pursuing commercialisation. The company has been awarded a €7.6M Innovation Credit from the Netherlands Enterprise Agency to improve productivity and reduce costs. Meatable intends to work as a partner to the conventional meat industry to roll out cultivated meat at scale. It previously raised $35 million last year in a round led by Agronomics to accelerate the launch of its products. Meatable has joined the APAC Society for Cellular Agriculture and its cultivated pork products are pending regulatory approval from the Singapore Food Agency. The company held the first officially approved cultivated meat tasting in the EU for its cultivated pork sausages and says it reduced production time for those sausages to four days. In May Meatable appointed Jeff Tripician as CEO to lead expansion into the US. Meatable develops cultivated pork products by taking animal cells without harming the animal and replicating natural growth using its patented “opti‑ox” technology and pluripotent stem cells. The company reports it has reduced production time for fat and muscle from three weeks to eight days by using 500‑liter bioreactors and achieving cell densities of 80 million cells per milliliter. Meatable has grown to a team of about 100, started production in Singapore, and held its first external tastings after Dutch regulators allowed them. The company is still pre‑revenue and will use new funding to scale processes and focus on cost reduction. Meatable plans to commercialize sausages and pork dumplings in Singapore starting in 2024 and aims to establish a U.S. presence in roughly two years. Leadership includes co‑founder and CEO Krijn de Nood. Meatable is a Dutch cultivated meat company developing cell‑based pork, beef and other meat products using its proprietary opti‑ox™ platform. The technology replicates natural fat and muscle growth to produce meat with the texture, taste and nutritional profile of traditional meat without slaughtering animals. Meatable says its process, when fully developed, can produce meat in weeks rather than the years required to raise livestock, and that it requires less land and water and emits fewer greenhouse gases. The company finalized its first showcase product in 2020 and has completed a pork showcase; it is now focusing development on cultivated pork and beef and notes its platform is adaptable to multiple species. Meatable plans to use new capital to advance small‑scale production at the Biotech Campus Delft and to diversify its product portfolio. Financially, Meatable has closed a $47 million Series A and reports total funding to date of $60 million. Meatable is an Amsterdam-based cultured meat company developing pork (and beef) cell‑based whole cuts. It secured a further US$10 million in seed funding, bringing its total investment to US$13 million. The new funds come primarily from pre-existing investors and include participation from Taavet Hinrikus and Albert Wenger, with a portion provided by the European Commission through its Eurostars Programme. Meatable says new technology will enable cultivation at scale and plans to expand its scaling and cost-reduction teams. The company intends to accelerate development of its beef and pork cells and its process for forming whole cuts of meat. Founder Krijn de Nood said they expect to unveil their first prototype and be ready to launch in summer 2020.
