Mebias Discovery develops GPCR-targeted drugs using a platform designed to avoid on-target adverse effects by achieving signaling-pathway selectivity. Led by Lawrence Kuo, PhD, the company’s discovery approach centers on native GPCR purification and 19F-protein nuclear magnetic resonance. The company intends to expand its pipeline into gastrointestinal and inflammation programs, applying its platform to discover drugs that avoid on-target side effects. Current programs include pathway-selective motilin receptor agonists for gastric motility disorders and S1P1-targeted candidates for pain and neuroinflammation. Its lead mu-opioid program has produced compounds that in preclinical models provide analgesia without respiratory depression, constipation, or addiction potential. That program is supported by a five-year UG3/UH3 grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse and investment from Bioadvance; the company recently closed a $3.5M funding round.
