Medefer operates a digital platform described as an 'outpatient operating system' that connects GPs, consultants and patients and pairs this with a nationwide network of contracted NHS consultants working remotely. The platform manages the patient pathway from referral to triage, investigation, diagnosis and discharge designed to reduce unnecessary physical outpatient appointments. Medefer says cases are reviewed by NHS consultants within 10 hours on average, outpatient costs are cut by a third for trusts using the service, and waiting lists can be reduced by 70%. Founded in 2013 by NHS consultant Dr Bahman Nedjat-Shokouhi and launched the following year, the company is CQC regulated. The new £10 million funding, led by Nickleby Capital, will be used to grow the team and invest in technology to service new contracts and enable new product development. Medefer aims to improve efficiency across the outpatient pathway by removing duplication and enabling consultants to work flexibly, returning clinical capacity to the NHS.
