Overview
Medici provides a HIPAA-compliant virtual healthcare platform used by clinicians and patients for secure text, voice and video communication. The platform supports over 20,000 healthcare providers, enabling clinicians to extend care and get paid without extra overhead or administrative burden. Founded in 2016 and led by CEO Clint Phillips, Medici operates from Austin. The company completed a Series B financing and intends to use the proceeds to accelerate growth. The product focuses on reducing administrative friction while enabling remote care delivery across locations and times. Medici offers a texting app that connects patients with their doctors, allowing messaging with physicians, dentists, therapists and veterinarians from a single platform. The app includes a one‑tap video chat feature and lets patients or providers invite each other to the platform. Medici operates nationwide, having launched in all 50 states. The company’s business model lets doctors use the app free in exchange for a portion of revenues or pay $149 per month. In 2016 the startup previously raised $24.2 million, and it has now secured more than $22 million in Series A private capital. Founder and CEO Clinton Phillips has discussed international expansion to South Africa and plans to onboard 3,000–5,000 doctors to support that growth. Phillips did not immediately disclose how the new funds will be allocated. Medici offers a Software-as-a-Service, text-based telehealth platform that encourages providers to communicate with their existing patients via secure messaging. The app connects patients with their own primary care doctors, therapists and veterinarians and is designed to make virtual care more personal. The company was founded by Clinton Phillips, who previously led 2nd.MD. Medici is currently only available in Austin, Texas, and the company said it plans to expand rapidly. A press release and Form D indicate the company raised funding to support expansion from Austin and Paris into other parts of the U.S., Europe, and South Africa. Management set a growth target of being in 12 states by January 2017.
