Mediterranean Algae is a Spanish blue-tech company focused on BIOREMED ALGAE®, a scalable, modular system that uses algae to remove pollutants such as nitrates and phosphates from marine and port waters. In a real-world pilot at the Port of Alicante, the installation processes more than four million litres of water per month and achieves pollutant reductions above 60 %, moving the solution from experimental stage to operational infrastructure. Complementing the core platform, the firm has introduced POSINODE, a continuous water-quality monitoring technology that feeds an AI-powered platform for early spill detection, real-time analytics and preventive alerts. Its circular model valorises the algae biomass into premium cosmetic ingredients for sun care, depigmentation and anti-aging applications, turning environmental compliance into an additional revenue stream. The company has secured €2 million in European funding to complete product development and commercial rollout. These proceeds will accelerate scale-up and enable deployment across ports and marinas throughout Europe.
