X No. 8 Beijing Station East Street Room 320, 3rd Floor, Block C, Beijing, 100029, China
Overview
Meicai is a mobile e-vendor of agricultural products serving tens of thousands of small and medium-sized restaurants and, overall, nearly 10 million restaurants and vegetable stores in China. The company buys directly from farmers to shorten and disrupt traditional supply chains, offering eateries cheaper, better-quality produce with speedy, free delivery. Meicai operates its own warehouses, delivery teams and trucks, including cold-chain logistics, and models itself after JD.com. Founded in 2014 by Liu Chuanjun and Xu Xueyin, it is described as China's largest mobile commerce platform for agricultural products. Meicai recently raised $450 million and is valued at $2.8 billion; it plans to use the funding to expand vegetable sourcing.
