Meilisearch develops an open source search engine and a managed search-as-a-service offering designed for frontend applications, using NLP to improve query understanding and typo tolerance. The project launched in 2020 and has grown to over 10 million downloads and is used by more than 10,000 apps. The company is building Meilisearch Cloud, a fully managed offering that onboarded over 50 companies during private beta and is scheduled to launch in late November. Meilisearch plans to release an "enterprise-ready" version of the open source product by early 2023 and is shifting to an enterprise-focused sales and marketing strategy. Current headcount is 25, with plans to expand to 30 by year-end and 50 by the end of 2023. On financial posture, leadership says it will spend the new capital over the next two to three years and declined to disclose revenue or runway details.
