Overview
Founded in 2023 by Priyansh Mohan and Stuti Kakkar, Meine Electric is building iron-air battery systems that store energy through a reversible rusting process using abundant materials such as iron, air, and water. The technology targets 16–24-hour long-duration energy storage (LDES), enabling round-the-clock utilisation of solar and other renewable generation. The company operates from a 5,000 sq ft facility in Chennai that is being outfitted for pilot-scale production and holds four granted patents with seven additional international filings. Meine Electric claims its batteries can charge and discharge quickly to match solar generation cycles while delivering a lower cost of storage than lithium-ion alternatives. Current efforts focus on moving from lab-scale prototypes to pilot-ready systems and building grid-connected demonstrators. Looking ahead, the team plans larger pilot deployments and aims to launch containerised iron-air battery products by 2027. The startup is already in discussions with power producers and commercial-industrial customers to run pilot projects.
