Meizu is a Guangdong-based smartphone maker that sells Android-based phones via an online sales model similar to Xiaomi. The company sold 1.5 million of its Android smartphones in January. Meizu has yet to break into China’s top five smartphone companies and is overshadowed by Apple, Samsung, Lenovo and Xiaomi. Under the deal it will integrate its hardware with Alibaba’s Aliyun (Yun OS). Alibaba will provide resources and support in e-commerce, mobile internet, mobile operating system and data analysis, and Meizu phones will be sold through Alibaba’s online retail sites.
