Melonfrost
882 3rd Avenue 10th Fl, Suite SE, Brooklyn, New York, 11232, United States
Overview
Melonfrost combines its Maia machine-learning platform with Evolution Reactor hardware to steer evolution in a closed, automated loop that iteratively selects for desired phenotypes. Maia learns how organisms evolve under different selection pressures and returns instructions that the Evolution Reactor applies to thousands of independent microbial populations. The Evolution Reactor is modular, with units that each hold roughly 250 individual microbial populations, and cloud software ties the hardware and models together. The company currently operates the system in its Brooklyn lab but aims to scale into an Evolution Reactor “biological data center” warehouse. Melonfrost plans to use its recent seed financing to build out hardware and move toward its first customer in the edible fats segment of the food sector. Founders include CEO Sam Levin and Head of Engineering & Design Loren Amdahl-Culleton, who started the company with two other childhood friends.
