Overview

Memloom is a web service that lets users create magazine-style multimedia stories using photos, video, audio, and text with customizable themes and block-based layouts. Users can drag and drop content, write text, or record audio to build stories online, which can be viewed, printed at home, or shared on social networks; an iPad app was planned to ship shortly after launch. The product was tested with about 160 early beta testers and has been marketed primarily to parents reachable via founder Alyssa Martina’s Metro Parent Magazine. Memloom uses a freemium model with a premium subscription planned at $3–$10 per month, and it plans to offer a paid hard-copy solid-state drive option in the future. The company is a five-person team spun out from Metro Parent Magazine, founded over a year before launch and headquartered in Detroit. Financially, Memloom has so far raised $625,000 in seed funding from angel investors and aims to ultimately raise $3 million.
