Overview
Mentum is a San Francisco–based startup founded in 2021 by Gustavo Trigos, Simon Avila and Daniel Osvath after participating in Y Combinator’s summer 2021 cohort. The company develops a middle-layer technology of APIs and widgets to enable businesses across Latin America to build and offer fully digital, locally compliant investment products. Its products are currently in beta and the team has pursued country-by-country broker‑dealer integrations to navigate local regulations. Mentum initially targeted fintechs but has seen demand from banks, supermarkets, insurance companies, credit unions and super apps. Planned product work includes additional payments capabilities and adding DeFi and crypto features. The company has two strategic partnerships with broker‑dealers and is integrating with two YC‑backed fintechs while about 25 other companies have expressed interest. Management intends to use new capital to grow headcount (currently seven employees) and to integrate five clients each in Colombia and Chile, with an eye toward Peru and Argentina.
