MeOmics
Maindy Road, Cardiff, Wales, CF24 4HQ, United Kingdom
Overview
Founded in 2021 as a spin-out from Cardiff University, MeOmics Precision Medicine uses induced pluripotent stem cell technology to create patient-derived models that reveal the underlying biological sub-types of complex mental illnesses such as schizophrenia. By pairing these cellular models with data analytics, the company enables pharmaceutical partners to screen compounds against biologically matched patient groups, lowering clinical failure rates and reducing harmful side-effects from mis-targeted drugs. The platform aims to replicate in psychiatry the precision-medicine advances already common in oncology. MeOmics has been supported by an Innovate UK grant and earlier backing from St Andrew’s Healthcare. Its newest funding brings in £300,000 of equity and follows a £25,000 Smart Flexible Innovation Support grant from the Welsh Government. The fresh capital will be used to optimise the platform, expand data generation capabilities, and hire additional technical staff as the firm moves toward commercialisation.
