Merlyn Mind
8 West 40th Street, 20th Floor, New York, NY, 10018, United States
Overview
Merlyn Mind offers a vertically integrated “AI hub” combining custom hardware (a smart‑speaker/soundbar and a consumer‑style remote) with software — Symphony Classroom, a forked‑Android, Alexa‑style voice interface — and a personal assistant called Merlyn. The device is designed for edge AI processing to reduce latency and improve security, and the company says it built its own microphone array and voice stack to meet classroom requirements. The system can control TVs, interactive whiteboards and other connected devices to navigate apps like Google apps, Nearpod and Newsela, and can surface teachers’ own materials. Merlyn Mind spent about three years building its first release and has piloted the service in 50+ classrooms across more than 20 schools. The team includes former IBM Watson education researchers (co‑founders Satya Nitta, Ravi Kokku and Sharad Sundararajan) and alumni from HP Education, Amazon, Google, Facebook, Broadcom and Roku. The company plans a commercial launch later this year, with pricing to be announced.
