MetaLeX
George Town, Midland, Cayman Islands
Overview
MetaLeX, founded and led on the legal side by Gabriel Shapiro (with Alex Golubitsky), positions itself as a hybrid law firm/tech company focused on the challenges crypto projects face when decentralizing. Its core product is MetaLeX OS, an operating system that helps DAOs "BORGify" governance by embedding smart contract–enforced rules into charters and processes. The OS includes constructs to run grantmaking, emergency shutdowns, and venture investments on behalf of an entity. MetaLeX describes the resulting construct as a Cybernetic Organization, or BORG, that mandates smart-contract functionality in operations. The company operates as a Delaware corporation (tech company) alongside a Texas limited liability partnership (the law firm), and clients can use one or both entities. MetaLeX has a waitlist of projects, including two unnamed "blue chip" clients—a layer-2 blockchain and a traditional DeFi DAO—seeking to fully BORGify operations. The team says the project could one day issue its own token if it evolves into a legal protocol requiring customer governance.
