Metaplex provides a protocol and tooling that allow users to create their own Solana-based NFT marketplaces. The project is ramping up operations after a successful 2021 debut and says its protocol has been used to create over 85,000 projects and 5.7 million NFTs since its launch last June. Metaplex intends to use new funding to scale operations and to provide grants supporting creators from underrepresented communities. The company positions itself as a common protocol and NFT standard for decentralized commerce, social and gaming experiences. In September it reorganized its corporate roster with a new CEO and several new board members. The broader Solana NFT market recently passed $1 billion in total market capitalization, with Metaplex cited as a key driver of that growth.
