Mezu is a peer-to-peer payments app that generates one-time, four-digit codes so users can give or receive money without sharing contact details. The app supports linking bank accounts, debit and credit cards, and provides FDIC-insured virtual accounts for users without banks. Mezu charges a 3% fee on credit card transactions and a 1.5% fee for same-day "Fast Withdraw" transfers. The company says it aims to serve cash-like use cases (tips, market vendors) and plans to partner with businesses, nonprofits, and event organizers using drop codes for impulse donations. Mezu launched its iOS and Android apps and faces competition from Venmo, Zelle, and PayPal.
