MI Group developed AirFi — a lightweight, portable onboard WiFi system delivered in a box weighing under one kilo — after earlier success with its Connected Crew tablet-based inflight solution. AirFi is described as a cloud-based onboard WiFi solution and has been installed on more than 150 aircraft, with customers including KLM, Transavia, Estonian Air, Adria Airways, Arkefly and Corendon. The company says the small, lightweight device is more attractive to airlines than heavy built-in systems and has become the most widely used portable onboard WiFi solution in the industry. MI Group was founded in 2010 and used the Connected Crew product to move into passenger connectivity with AirFi. The company plans to use funds to further grow AirFi, strengthen its position in Asia and enter the South American market. Current financial activity includes a secured €1.3M investment and efforts to complete a €7.5M third financing round along with a planned €5M in listed bonds.
