Microbiome Therapeutics

11001 W 120th Ave, Broomfield, CO, 80021, United States

Overview

MicroBiome Therapeutics applies the science of the gastrointestinal (GI) microbiome to promote health and wellness. The company is developing a clinically-tested dietary supplement designed to balance and optimize the GI tract. Its product is an all-natural, patent-pending blend of prebiotics, including fermentable fiber and polyphenol antioxidants intended to nurture beneficial microorganisms in the lower gut. The formulation has been tested in two clinical trials. Led by Acting CEO Dale Pfost, the company plans to launch the clinically-tested microbiome modulator product in 2018. MicroBiome is based in New Orleans, Louisiana. Microbiome Therapeutics (formerly NuMe Health) is developing NM504, a microbiome modulator made from prebiotics and naturally occurring ingredients intended to build specific beneficial gut bacteria and discourage others. The company is running two clinical trials: one to enhance insulin sensitivity in patients with prediabetes and another to lessen GI adverse effects in metformin users. MBT says NM504 aims to affect appetite, metabolism and energy storage by promoting targeted bacterial strains. To fund those trials, investors including BVM Capital provided $1.3 million in bridge financing; the company completed a $1.5 million Series A the prior year. CEO Steve Orndorff said the funds will allow completion of ongoing studies and preparation for the next set of clinical trials, with results expected soon and a planned Series B in 2014. The company was founded by John Elstrott and Dale Pfost and is based in Boulder, Colorado.
