MicroWash

Omaha, Nebraska, 68105, United States

Overview

University Medical Devices (UMD) is a medical device developer commercializing MicroWash, a less-invasive nasal specimen collection system to improve sampling for upper respiratory infections. MicroWash was developed at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic to address the “tripledemic” of flu, COVID and RSV and to offer a more comfortable alternative to nasal swabs for labs, patients and providers. UMD commercializes technology from the University of Nebraska Medical Center and its commercialization arms UNeMed/UNeTech, and its leadership includes experts in pandemic medicine, telehealth and healthcare startup entrepreneurship. The company plans multiple sample collection products in the coming years and intends to launch an aggressive sales campaign in the first half of 2024 targeting distributors, national reference laboratories, health systems, health plans and government agencies. Device availability is anticipated later this year, and the company says proceeds will advance regulatory, manufacturing, packaging, sales and marketing infrastructure. UMD states the seed financing is a major step toward achieving profitability and sustainability.
