Overview
MigVax is developing an oral vaccine candidate for COVID-19 built on a protein-vector platform the team previously used against an avian coronavirus (Infectious Bronchitis Virus) in animals. The company is affiliated with the Migal Galilee Research Institute and says its vaccine does not include the virus itself, which it argues should improve safety for immune-suppressed recipients and reduce chances of side effects. MigVax’s platform uses a chimeric soluble protein to carry viral antigen into tissue and elicit antibody production. The company plans to adapt its generic vaccine system to SARS-CoV-2 and, using a bacterial fermentation process, aims to have material ready for clinical trials within a few months. MigVax highlights manufacturing and cost advantages from using established fermentation production and says it is already in talks with major strategic partners for high-volume manufacturing and global distribution. OurCrowd has committed funding to accelerate these efforts.
