Overview
MilliDrop designs and develops cell culture solutions based on millifluidics technology for bacteriological research and diagnostic purposes. It is developing a blood infection diagnosis system for sepsis called "Droplet-Based Integrated Diagnosis from Blood Culture to Antibiogram." The company's solution aims to isolate and identify infectious bacteria and determine effective antibiotics within about 12 hours, compared with the usual 48 hours, to enable targeted antibiotherapy and help combat antimicrobial resistance. MilliDrop received €1.9 million in non-dilutive financing from Bpifrance to accelerate development after being named a laureate of the Concours d'Innovation in the health category. The project was backed by the Medicen Paris Région competitiveness cluster and is supported under the Program of Investments for the Future (PIA) framework. The company is based in Paris. MilliDrop designs and develops cell culture machines based on millifluidics technology to culture and analyse micro-organisms for bacteriological research and diagnostic purposes. Its first product, the MilliDrop Analyzer, uses millifluidics to miniaturize cell culture, enabling high-throughput incubation, analysis and manipulation of samples from about 100 nanolitres down to a few picolitres with no deterioration in performance. The system monitors several thousand reactions in parallel in millimetric drops with no evaporation or contamination between cultures, and the company says reducing sample size increases productivity a thousand-fold. MilliDrop is also developing a new generation of in-vitro diagnostics instruments called MilliDrop DIV to identify infectious agents and determine antibiotic doses required to eradicate them. The company will use the €1 million raised from Seventure Partners' Quadrivium 1 seed fund to start producing trial runs of the MilliDrop Analyzer. Seventure Partners highlighted the technology's potential to give public- and private-sector research laboratories access to compact, easy-to-use high-throughput screening machines.
