Overview
Mint Innovation uses a proprietary biometallurgical process and scalable platform to recover precious metals from crushed and powdered electronic waste. During trials at its first biorefinery in Auckland, the company recovered significant amounts of gold and copper. It plans to deploy its technology starting with a Greater Sydney biorefinery in early 2021 that will process up to 3,500 tonnes of e-waste per year. A second biorefinery in the North West of England is expected to begin construction the following year, and the company aims to license its plant design for global rollout. Mint envisions selling recovered metals back to local businesses to create a circular economy. The company raised NZ$20 million in a Series B to build these plants. CEO Dr Will Barker says the capital enables deployment and scaling of the platform.
