Overview
Mint is a location-based mobile dating app launched in December that allows users to message nearby people without a mutual match. The app is available on iOS with an Android version planned. It claims about 100,000 downloads and roughly 10,000 daily active users, with the majority of activity in Canada, Australia, the Netherlands, France, Denmark and Sweden. Mint’s approach is similar to Tinder but permits a more open, free-for-all messaging model; the company cites Tinder, Badoo and Happn as its main competitors. The company has taken external backing from Balaclava Lab, which invested in Mint. Balaclava Lab — run by Ask.fm founders — intends to act as a startup laboratory to develop and invest in additional products using the founders’ own funds.
