Overview

Minterest is a lending and borrowing protocol designed to make DeFi fairer for users by prioritizing value capture and inclusive token distribution. The protocol implements a DeFi 2.0 model intended to deliver greater capital efficiency and a fairer incentive structure. It features a buyback mechanism that automatically passes revenue to contributing users and an on-chain treasury that captures and shares liquidation rewards. Less than one and a half years after inception, Minterest reported a fully diluted valuation of $514M following its token sale. The team ran a Liquidity Bootstrapping Pool (LBP) on Copper to ensure equitable token distribution and intends to launch the protocol by the end of Q1 2022. The project highlights user-facing rewards on top of lending/borrowing rates to aim for high long-term yields. Minterest is an innovative borrowing and lending protocol built to service the growing decentralized finance ecosystem and to prioritize user benefits. The protocol operates its own on-chain liquidation and buyback mechanisms. It automatically distributes the value it captures from interest rate, flash loan and liquidation fees to users. The buyback mechanism allows users to receive protocol revenue in addition to underlying borrow and lending rates, which the company says creates competitive long-term yields. KR1 invested US$350,000 into Minterest in return for a yet-to-be-determined amount of MNT tokens; KR1 invested alongside Digital Finance Group and CMS Holdings. Company messaging emphasizes engineering a long-term model that shares rewards the protocol generates to help DeFi move toward the mainstream.
