900 E Hamilton Avenue Suite 650, Campbell, California, 95008, United States
Overview
Mirantis builds and manages open cloud software infrastructure to help developers ship code faster on public and private clouds. The company combines intelligent automation and cloud-native expertise to provide a ZeroOps approach to managing and operating Kubernetes and cloud environments. Mirantis aims to free developers from infrastructure management so enterprises can automate, build, test, release and run modern cloud applications. It serves more than 700 enterprise customers and supports 400,000 container nodes in production; Lens, its Kubernetes development platform, supports over 50,000 companies and 1 million users. The company is led by CEO Adrian Ionel and is backed by investors including Intel Capital and Insight Partners. Mirantis intends to use financing proceeds for general growth and working capital. Mirantis builds and supports enterprise OpenStack software and services, positioning itself as a pure-play corporate face for the open-source project. The company contributes 100 percent of its work upstream and dedicates over 100 engineers to the next OpenStack release. Mirantis reports 136 customers including Wells Fargo, Orange, DirecTV and Ericsson, and employs about 600 people, 420 of whom are engineers. It says new bookings grew from $1M a month last year to $1M a week now. The company raised $100M in Series B financing to continue its push to be the enterprise OpenStack leader and to expand headcount and operations. Mirantis says it expects to submit IPO paperwork sometime in 2016. Mirantis provides professional services and integration tooling for OpenStack-based cloud infrastructures. The company has developed a tool library of frameworks that tie together compute, storage, and networking capabilities, including a Puppet library for automating infrastructure. Mirantis is one of the founding members of OpenStack and has helped develop more than 30 OpenStack deployment projects in the past 18 months, working with customers such as NASA, WebEx, Gap, PayPal, Internap, and AT&T. Today Mirantis works directly with companies like Dell to build out cloud infrastructure rather than exposing its library to end customers. The company calls its recent funding "growth capital" and plans to use part of it to expand into China where OpenStack adoption is increasing. Mirantis is positioned to help enterprises piece together the moving parts of OpenStack as the ecosystem matures.
