Misty Robotics is a Boulder-based hardware startup spun out of robotic toy maker Sphero that is developing a multipurpose robot aimed at mainstream consumers for the home and office. The team includes about half a dozen former Sphero employees, including co-founder Ian Bernstein as Head of Product, and is led by CEO Tim Enwall. Misty plans to target its first products at the hobbyist/maker and innovator market as a step toward broader consumer adoption. Leadership says a truly mainstream consumer robot is still several years away, so early devices will focus on capabilities, affordability and functionality for early adopters. The company released a prototype image and says its first product is set to hit the market next year. Misty raised an $11.5 million Series A to advance development and commercialization of its first-generation robot.
