Mixed Media Labs builds Picplz, a mobile social photo-sharing service created by Imeem executives Dalton Caldwell and Bryan Berg. Picplz syncs phone photos to a profile on picplz.com, tagging images with location and place. The app lets users post photos directly to Facebook and Twitter and check in to Foursquare, and supports following other users’ photo streams in a Twitter-like model. The company launched an Android app in May and an iPhone version in August, and the two apps have seen over 100,000 downloads combined. Recent updates added special effects, a new UI, and improved photo upload speeds. Management says the new funding will be used to expand monetization and develop new products, though details are unclear.
