Mixtent operates a social network that tracks professional reputation by letting users anonymously rank the talent of people in their networks. The service calculates a SkillRank for both users and their peers using weighted, anonymous endorsements and algorithmically derived metrics. Its infrastructure is built on top of a LinkedIn API and also connects with Facebook to assess relationship strength. The company is targeting people trying to hire, get hired, or find internal talent and positions itself against job boards and online recruiters such as Monster, CareerBuilder, SuccessFactors and Taleo. After several months in public beta, the site reports 600,000 unique visitors, though only a fraction have cast votes; the average user has about 20 votes. So far Mixtent has raised under $1 million in a single round from undisclosed investors and says the system will improve as it captures more votes.
