Mocavo is a genealogy search engine launched in March 2011 and led by CEO Cliff Shaw. The company has built a custom search engine focused on genealogy, an automated system that sends undiscovered content to users, and mobile/web apps to self-publish documents and photos. It intends to use new capital to grow its technology team and product capabilities by hiring product engineers and developers. The company currently has immediate openings for front-end developers, back-end developers and interface designers. Mocavo raised new funding to support these product and engineering hires and further develop its platform. Mocavo is building a search engine specifically optimized for ancestry-related searches, surfacing genealogy content that is often overlooked by general search engines. The service maintains a whitelist of genealogy sites and continuously scans them; it currently has around 5.8 billion names in its index. The site launched in March and was part of the TechStars Boulder program. Mocavo is seeing more than 1 million page views per month and about 100,000 unique visitors, with an average session length of 17 minutes. The company says it will add social features down the line, including a family tree builder, and aims to make genealogy "open, social, and automated." The product currently focuses on search, and founder Cliff Shaw notes better results for searches on deceased individuals.
