Modern Guild offers online career-prep courses for college and college-bound students taught by real professionals and trained career coaches in live, one-on-one sessions. Courses run eight to ten weeks and require students to meet with mentors for at least one eight-hour-long class; mentors include professors, professional recruiters, and college career-center staff. Through its platform students can videoconference with mentors, connect with guidance counselors, take preparatory interviews, and interact with peers. After a pilot of 100 students at 10 campuses that attracted over 200 mentors, Modern Guild closed applications for its first semester with about 4,000 applicants and can host up to 2,000 students. The company charges roughly $1,500 per course and has positioned itself as a selective, intensive digital-apprenticeship alternative to MOOCs and other career-service offerings.
