Overview
MOF Technologies develops metal-organic framework (MOF) technology and a patent-protected mechanochemical manufacturing process that accelerates MOF synthesis using little or no solvents. Founded in part by QUBIS Ltd in 2012 in partnership with inventor Professor Stuart James, the company is based in Belfast, Northern Ireland and is led by CEO Dr Paschal McCloskey. Its core product is the mechanochemical manufacturing process and related MOF materials. The company aims to transition MOF technology from the lab to global industrial applications, including gas storage, carbon capture, vehicular transport and heat transformation. MOF Technologies recently received £1.5m in funding to support its development and commercialization efforts. MOF Technologies has developed a novel, environmentally friendly, rapid and highly scalable technique to synthesize metal–organic frameworks (MOFs). Its MOFs are highly porous materials used to store, separate and capture specific gases with applications in natural gas vehicle storage, carbon capture, air purification, heat transformation and drug delivery. The company is commercialising these materials through collaborations with partners including IBM and General Motors. MOF Technologies plans to scale up its proprietary manufacturing process to supply industrial‑scale applications and expand its UK manufacturing base. As part of that plan, new facilities in Belfast, Northern Ireland are scheduled to open in Q1 2016. The company is positioning its technology for cost‑effective deployment across a range of clean‑tech markets.
