Overview

Mojo is a seven-month-old New York company building a sports stock market that invites users to buy futures-style derivative contracts tied to individual athletes. The platform reportedly plans to assign each athlete a statistic measuring value and to act as market maker, offering instant liquidity. TechCrunch and Bloomberg reporting indicate the company plans to start with professional football and eventually expand to all sports, thousands of players, and many markets. Co-founder and CEO Vinit (“Vinny”) Bharara is leading the company alongside former Walmart.com executive Bart Stein; Bharara has prior exits and partnerships with Marc Lore. Mojo has about 40 employees and says it plans to launch this fall. Arrangements with state gaming commissions are described as a work in progress, and the company declined to answer questions, calling it “too early” in its trajectory.
