Momoe is a Bangalore-based mobile payments startup that offers an app-based virtual wallet allowing users to pay at restaurants and pubs instead of using credit cards or cash. Its app is available on Android and iOS, and the company generates revenue by taking a cut of each transaction. Founded in April 2014 by a team of IIT and IIM alumni including Utkarsh Biradar, Karthik Vaidyanathan, Ganesh Balakrishnan, Neelesh Bam and Aiman Ashraf, Momoe has partnerships with around 28 restaurants and pubs. The company reports over 10,000 users and is aiming to enable 500 merchants in the next few months. Momoe plans to expand to other metros across India and competes with other mobile-payment players such as Paytm, Mobikwik and iKaazs.
