Momox is an online buyback service that trades second-hand books, CDs, DVDs and computer and console games. Founded in 2006 by Christian Wegner and based in Berlin, customers enter a product barcode online to receive an immediate purchase offer. Sellers send items to Momox without delivery charges and are paid once the items are received. The company has grown to approximately 150 employees and reports annual turnover of more than €20m. In November 2010 Momox commenced operations in a new 8,000 square metre logistics centre. Founder and CEO Christian Wegner says the capital will allow Momox to further expand and ramp up the service more quickly. Momox operates a German-only online trade-in site where users enter an item's barcode, receive an immediate offer, ship the item at Momox's expense, and are paid upon receipt. The company was founded in 2003 by Christian Wegner, who started by buying and reselling CDs on eBay. Momox has run on revenues since its founding and currently pulls in around €10m a year. The business has bought more than 4.5 million items since 2006 and adds roughly ten thousand new items daily; its warehouse expanded from an initial 20 sq/m in 2004 to over 2,500 sq/m today. Momox has kept a low PR profile despite becoming one of Germany's leading trade-in services, and many eBay sellers have migrated to its simpler workflow. The recent investment is intended to help expand the business and support product improvements, including a potential UI makeover.
