Overview

mon.ki builds a “social compass” that automatically extracts information from the web page and displays related Twitter profiles and tweets via a Chrome browser extension. The product points users to people related to a page (for example, an article’s author and associated profiles) and plans to add Facebook, Google+ and LinkedIn support in two to three weeks, with integrated single-profile views in about eight weeks. The startup was founded by Tim Delhaes and Marcelo Iturbe and developed its technology in partnership with a university research team that previously worked for Yahoo. mon.ki is launching in private beta and is inviting the first 500 TechCrunch readers who sign up and email their Twitter ID to join. The company has closed $400,000 in seed funding from investors across five countries. Advisers include Joseph Smarr, Jay Bhatti, Shane Mac and David Weekly.
