Monerium is a Reykjavik-based fintech that issues asset-backed, redeemable and regulated e-money on blockchains through a licensed institution. The company aims to make currency accessible, secure and simple to transact by bringing regulated e-money onto blockchains. It completed and submitted an application to become a licensed financial services company in the European Economic Area through a wholly-owned subsidiary. Monerium plans to use recent funding to accelerate development of its services. The company was founded in September 2016 and counts a team of fourteen people across Reykjavik, Sweden, the US and the UK. Financially, it has just closed seed financing to support its product development and licensing efforts.
