Overview
Monica Healthcare specializes in wireless healthcare technology, providing wearable medical devices that monitor fetal and maternal well-being. Its AN24 product is an FDA-approved wireless fetal-maternal monitor used during labour and sold in the USA, Europe, Brazil, Russia, India and China. The AN24 system is used to monitor the delivery of over 100,000 babies every year. The company’s patented technology passively acquires electrophysiological signals from electrodes on the maternal abdomen and extracts fetal heart rate, maternal heart rate, uterine activity and fetal ECG morphology parameters in real time. Monica plans to use the recent funding and a Nottingham Technology Grant to expand operations and to underpin manufacture and launch of a second-generation FDA-cleared wireless fetal monitoring product. Founded in May 2005 following 15 years of research at the University of Nottingham, the company is led by CEO Dr Carl Barratt.
