Founded in 2019 and based in Avelin, France, Monomeris Chemicals spent five years developing a rapid depolymerization technology that breaks down 100 % of plastic waste—including "orphan" plastics normally sent to landfill or incineration—into base monomers such as ethylene, propylene and butenes. The compact, containerized system can be integrated into existing industrial lines, processing roughly 60 kg of plastic per hour (about one tonne per day) with reaction times of under a minute and requiring only electricity for operation. Monomeris purchases the recovered monomers from its recycling customers and resells them to chemical-industry buyers, positioning itself as an intermediary between the recycling and chemicals sectors. The company claims the monomers are chemically identical to petro-derived equivalents, opening applications from new plastic production to pharmaceuticals like paracetamol. It advertises a four-year return on investment for recyclers and plans to complete its first commercial deliveries in 2026. An in-house industrial site has been established for assembling the units, and early international demand has been identified in India, Africa and the Middle East. The startup has not disclosed current revenue or detailed financial forecasts.
