Morressier
Invalidenstraße 5, Berlin, 10115, Germany
Overview
Morressier provides societies and publishers with workflows for scholarly communications and offers researchers a suite of pre-submission checks to ensure submission completeness, quality, and compliance with industry standards. The company recently announced Integrity Manager to protect research integrity at every step of the publishing journey and is developing Journal Manager, a journal submission system, with IOP Publishing as its first major client. Customers include IOP Publishing, AAAS, ASCE, APS, and Mayo Clinic. Led by CEO Sami Benchekroun, Morressier intends to use new funding for continued product innovation and to scale its go-to-market activities into institutional and corporate markets. It also plans to expand partnerships with research integrity vendors. Morressier is headquartered in Berlin and maintains additional offices in London and Washington, DC. The company raised $16.5M in a Series B financing. Morressier provides an end-to-end software platform for academic conferences and research publishing, digitizing submission, peer review, content libraries and event hosting. The product creates landing pages for societies, aggregates submissions, runs online peer review and builds persistent content libraries for virtual or in-person conferences. Morressier added a livestream video component in early 2020 and supplies post-event analytics to societies to track research consumption. The company charges societies a flat fee for conference and peer-review management and a per-document fee that scales with content uploaded. Morressier reports more than 700,000 accounts, has run conferences with the American Chemical Society and SPIE, and saw 6x growth in authors and 13x growth in documents on its platform. It generated $4.5 million in sales in 2020 and grew headcount from 28 staff at the start of 2020 with plans to reach 100 by the end of 2021. Morressier operates a platform that connects industry, universities, scientific institutions, and conferences to share and discover early-stage research, including presentations, videos, images, and metadata. The company claims researchers have shared over 140,000 previously hidden research findings via its service. Morressier offers real-time analytics and search technology to surface trending scientific topics and monitor science as it happens. With the new funding it plans to rapidly grow its early-stage research platform, expand its end-to-end analytics product, and deepen partnerships with pharmaceutical companies and universities. The company also intends to hire more engineering talent and further invest in machine learning to improve its offerings. Financially, Morressier raised new capital in this round to accelerate product development and adoption across the research ecosystem. Morressier operates a SaaS platform for sharing offline academic conference material—abstracts and posters—and for discovering researchers and tracking trends. The platform aggregates conference content and provides analytics on topics so researchers can follow and discover each other’s work. Currently 250 academic conferences and associations use Morressier, including the International Diabetes Federation and the World Psychiatric Association. The company says much academic material remains unreachable unless attendees are physically present, and Morressier aims to make that content accessible. The new funding will be used to build features for analysing and structuring content and to hire engineers. Founders Sami Benchekroun and Justus Weweler initially bootstrapped the company before taking on investment.
