Motif is developing a cloud-native 3D computer-aided design platform for the architecture, engineering, and construction industry with elements of machine learning and AI. The company’s founders, Amar Hanspal and Brian Matthews, are former Autodesk executives; Hanspal spent about 20 years at Autodesk and later co-founded Bright Machines. Motif says existing AEC tools are largely not cloud-based and can take up to 45 minutes to process simple edits, motivating its effort to modernize building design workflows. Its first product remained in stealth and was expected to be ready in the first half of this year. Motif faces competition from other AEC startups such as Snaptrude and Arcol but emphasizes the founders’ industry experience as a differentiator. The startup raised capital to fund engineering and go-to-market efforts while tackling the technical difficulty of putting 3D architecture models in the cloud.
